SAGA: Iron Man Day - July 23 @ 9:00 am - 6:00 pm
In association with Gripping Beast, Wargames Illustrated present a day of SAGA gaming with a difference, at WIHQ Nottingham.
We invite you to join in battle with like-minded gamers and strive to attain the title of SAGA Iron Man!
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BRING
Leave your own warband at home, and turn up with nothing but enthusiasm and a sense of fun. During the several games that will take place over the course of the day, you will be randomly assigned a warband (from the Gripping Beast or Wargames Illustrated collection) and asked to prove your worth as a great warlord, with no prior knowledge of the force you will be commanding.
HOW WILL THE DAY BE RUN
Players will have to hone their tactics as they play in a series of no-frills ‘Kill The Warlord’ scenarios with no added extras like priests, heroes or War Banner bearers, allowing both novice and veteran SAGA players to compete on a level playing field.
Battles will be fought on 4′ by 3′ boards with all scenery being provided. This will be a tournament-style event, so each battle will allow for the accumulation of points and the chance to win prizes.
FOOD AND DRINK
The £30 cost of your ticket covers a range of drinks and snacks during the course of the day. You are also entitled to a hot meal for lunch.
Please inform us of any particular dietary requirements you may have and we will endeavour to meet your needs.
9 – 9.30am: Meet, greet, tea and coffee.
9.30 – 10am: Warlord Briefings and Warband set up.
10 – 12pm: Battle One
12 – 1pm: Post-Battle analysis, followed by lunch and set up for next recording.
During lunch, an entertainment of some sort shall be offered.
1 – 3pm: Battle Two
3 – 3.30pm: Post-Battle analysis, tea/coffee followed by set up for Final game.
3.30 – 5.00pm: Final Battle
5.00 – 5.30pm: Post-Battle bragging, flagons of ale (well, tea, coffee or soft drinks), prize giving and vows of vengeance!
Full details regarding how the Battles which make up the Saga will be run will be given in the first briefing of the day and any updates will be provided.
RULES QUIRKS AND INTERPRETATIONS
We will have Umpires and other experts on hand to offer advice and answer any queries but, on the whole, you should arrive willing to make sure everyone enjoys the day and aim to resolve any problems using the one area all Warlords understand, ‘Common Sense’.
Wargames Illustrated/Battlefront Europe
Nottingham city centre has a range of hotels to suit most budgets. If you would like to stay within a stone’s-throw of the venue (we are about six miles from the centre of Nottingham), check out The Village hotel www.village-hotels.co.uk/hotels/nottingham/
We will be covering the day for WI magazine, please note you may be seen in photos and video taken on the day. We will also be providing some material for use by Gripping Beast, our generous sponsors.
We are looking for several players to tell us how their preparation and day panned out. If you would be interested in writing a small report on the Epic Saga of your Warband and how it performed on the day, please let us know.
The SAGA: IRON MAN Day is not just a tournament. It is also a Day For Heroes set within the world of the Dark Ages / Early Medieval era. We are hoping for a competitive but relaxed and friendly atmosphere. You will note that the timetable is not ‘packed’ and you will not be rushed from table to table.
We are looking forward to welcoming you to WIHQ and taking part in the Saga of the Century!
