During the collapse of the Hittite Empire, the Greek world began to colonise Asia Minor around 1300 BCE. Before long, a colony of Greeks established itself in the region known to the Ancient Persians as 'Katpatuka', which they altered to Kappadokia. In the centuries to come, Kappadokia would become a popular region to recruit soldiers from, and they would come to be found in the armies of the Seleucids, Armenians, Romans and more.
